Kōtarō Ogawa

Ogawa is an acquaintance of the Kirigaya family who serves as a bodyguard. When Satoko ends up on Tennyo Island, he is the one sent to bring her back home.

His position is uncomfortable by design. He owes his duty to her family, but he can see that what her family wants for her is not what she wants for herself. That tension — between obedience and conscience — is what makes him more than a simple obstacle.

As a supporting figure, Ogawa helps carry the story's larger theme: the distance between the respectable world Satoko comes from and the world she chooses. He stands on the border between the two.
